The Cal. State Northridge Matadors came out flying Friday night against the Santa Clara Broncos.

Anthony Kendryna got the scoring started twenty seconds into the game. Despite the quick Northridge start the Broncos shocked the Matadors with a rebuttal fifteen seconds later to tie the game at one. After the first thirty five second flurry, the game settled down until Chris Gale and Jack Avetissian scored the third and fourth goals of the night half way through the period. Rory Lamb netted his third of the season less than two minutes after Avetissian to give the Matadors a 4-1 lead.

Captain JP Gale scored his first of the year on the power play, followed by Rustin Rashidi burying his second of the year two minutes after. Santa Clara continued to battle back with a goal by Chris Tanzola at 7:35. Northridge wasn't done though and put in three more by Chris Gale, Anthony Annese and Anthony Kendryna.

Down but not out, the Broncos put two goals in the first half of the third by Tom Sullivan and Sam Lass. Tom Lalley quickly countered with his first of the year at the 10:44 mark followed by Chris Gale at the 9:00 minute mark for the hat trick. Shaun Pienkos of SCU tallied the last of the night for the Broncos and freshman Anthony Annese netted his second of the night just fifty three seconds later.

Strong play by SCU's goalie Chris McNamara kept the game respectable and turned away 47 shots. Freshman goalie Ryan Weiss of the Matadors got his first career win and sealed the deal as the Matadors skated away with a 12-5 victory.

Saturday's game saw the Bronco goaltender Chris McNamara put on a show as the Laguna Niguel native turned away 47 shots again making some incredible saves. The Matadors started the game just like the night before with a Kendryna goal twenty nine seconds into the game. Santa Clara quickly regrouped and picked up the physical play, which eventually led to a Tom Sullivan power play goal at 11:40 of the first. The Matadors responded twice soon after with another Kendryna goal and a twisted wrister from AJ Bernhardt at the 9:46 and 9:01 marks.

The second period saw excellent play from both teams and little scoring for much of the period. Anthony Kendryna continued to shine though and netted his third of the night at 13:09 for the hat trick and the only goal of the period.

Chris Gale started the third period scoring fifty nine seconds in and netted his second of the night, but Santa Clara's never say die attitude continued with power play goals coming at 10:19 and 6:51 by Pienkos and Sean Foote. The Broncos continued to fight and looked like they were going to make the game uncomfortably close for the Matadors, but Anthony Kendryna rallied the Matadors for his fourth of the night and sixteenth of the season.

McNamara's strong play frustrated the Matadors, along with the help of the goalies best friend, the post,  six times throughout the night. Fortunately for the Matadors the Broncos couldn't provide the offense and the Matadors finished off with a 6-3 win.

Matador goalie Mike Hanna earned his first career win in his first start in goal. Anthony Kendryna has continued to be the jelly to Chris Gale's peanut butter as the two have scored a combined 31 goals in 7 games. Kendryna leads the nation currently in goals with 16 and Gale leads in points with 32. The Matadors will take to the road this Friday to take on Sacramento State and UC Davis.
